About John Scardina
John has been working in schools since 1973. As a certified school
psychologist, he is dedicated to child-centered practices that
enhance student success and enjoyment in school. His career experience
has taught him the value of research-based techniques grounded
in the basic experiences of children and their families. John
also serves as a parent educator, youth coach, group facilitator and teacher trainer.
In 1993, when it became clear that parents
needed a lot of support too, John began holding parent coaching
classes, using books such as Adele Faber and Elaine
Mazlish’s How
To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk,
Wendy Mogel’s The Blessing of a Skinned
Knee and Jim Fay and Foster Cline’s Parenting
With Love & Logic. These parent coaching classes have
provided parents with an opportunity for community building,
sharing their experience, strength and hope with other parents
as they learn developmentally appropriate techniques for raising
healthy, resilient and responsible children.
John also has extensive experience running group
workshops for teenagers who are middle and high school students,
exploring issues such as dealing with your parents, communicating
effectively with peers, discovering your sexuality, finding out
who we are and who we want to be and developing healthy relationships.
